Thanks for visiting the site.  I know that one of my cousins did a family tree of Telugu (Andhra Pradesh, India) Thummas.  From what I remember it goes before the Portuguese came to India.  I recall that Thummas are a subset of the Reddys.

In Telugu, Thumma means Babul tree.

I stumbled across other Verizon employees and contractors with the same last name in India a couple years ago and was intrigued.

Almost all the Thumma&#039;s I have found in the US can be traced back to central Pennsylvania.  Now here I see it popping up regularly in a completely different culture and it, frankly, doesn&#039;t look to be indigineous to India.  Do you know the origins of the Thumma name in India?</description>
